What are Power Standards? In ANESU we have begun to define “Power Standards” for some subjects. They are “Power Standards” because we have chosen them as priorities. ANESU Power Standards are a subset of the complete list of Grade Expectations (with some adjustments) for each grade/subject. They are NOT intended to be the only standards that teachers teach and assess. Rather, they represent the priority standards. When we talk about the ANESU Power Standards, we are talking about what we will guarantee for all students. We are talking about what is ESSENTIAL for them all to remember and be able to do in 5 years; 10 years. The criteria that we have been using to select power standards are: * Endurance, Leverage, and Readiness:
We developed Power Standards to help teachers focus – to teach less curriculum with more depth. * Adapted from Ainsworth, L. (2004). Power Standards: Identifying the Standards That Matter The Most. Englewood, CA: Advanced Learning Press. |
